The Case for FAST Cooperation

The independent distributors and operators within FAST are facing a familiar challenge in the digital advertising landscape – the struggle to stand out, achieve meaningful scale and attract advertiser budgets. It’s a similar story as independent news publishers, which have taken to a collaboratively approach by forming groups like ProNews Collective and the Local Media Consortium. Taking a page from the playbook of news publishers, there's a compelling case for FAST channel operators and content distributors to band together and create a unified front.

The potential for collaboration in the FAST ecosystem is particularly intriguing when you consider the current fragmentation of inventory rights and control where individual operators might only control a slice of the overall inventory pie. By pooling inventory, establishing a standardized content taxonomy, building PMPs and working collaboratively, the independent FAST players could offer advertisers access to valuable, brand-safe environments at scale and be in a position where the power is in the hands of publishers.   • According to a global report by Amagi, there has been a 65% increase in hours of viewing on live sports in FAST. Contributing to that trend, we took three Monster Jam events Live on FAST in October.

  • Speaking of live sports, the Harlem Globetrotters channel, distributed exclusively by SPACEMOB, is debuting on Vizio WatchFree+ in November.

  • Samsung TV Plus has seen some serious growth. Now with 88 million monthly active users it can be considered the largest free streaming service in terms of viewers. Those viewers will soon be able to enjoy the Monster Jam FAST channel when it goes live in late 2024.
